Arthaus Contemporary

About

 About

Arthaus Contemporary is an artist-run gallery space that houses artist studios for the resident artists as well as a central gallery space playing host to resident and guest artist exhibitions, installations, experimentation and events. We want artists to have affordable space to use as they need!

Founded in 2016, we are a non-profit gallery hosting interesting and exciting art exhibitions of emerging and established artists from around New Zealand.

We welcome proposals for use of Arthaus' exhibition space from all artists.

Proposal Guidelines

Arthaus seeks proposals from innovative, emerging and established New Zealand-based artists. Proposals need to clarify how the artist would like to use the space and insight into their practice. The space can be used for a variation of presentations from exhibiting, and installation experimentation, to running a workshop. We want the space to be affordable and available to artists as they need.

Successful proposals will be subject to a $200 bond to be paid on approval/confirmation. The bond will be non-refundable if canceled within the 2 weeks prior to the exhibition/hire of space. Successful proposals will also receive further details for accessing, orientating, and minding our lovely space on acceptance.

Hire of the Gallery is $70 per week. This is to be paid 2 weeks prior to your exhibition. The space can be hired for a maximum of 3 weeks.

ALL PROPOSAL PDFS are to be submitted to Monique at 171monique@gmail.com

Exhibition Proposals

Proposals may be solo, collaborative, group projects or curatorial. All will be considered

It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to man the gallery themselves during open hours.  Arthaus' exhibition open hours are Weds-Sun 11-3 pm. These hours can be changed at the request of the artist.

The weekly hire period runs from Tuesday to Monday inclusive - you must install and de-install within these days [NB this is to allow for each exhibitor to be open over the weekend and install/de- install to be done over the working week].

The minimum hire period is 1week and maximum exhibition period is 3 weeks unless otherwise approved.
The hirer takes care of all sales, promotions, openings and
opening hours. ArtHAUS takes no commission.

An exhibition poster will be designed for you. This will be used to promote the show outside the gallery as well as on our website and social media platforms. It will be the responsibility of the exhibitor to pay for them when collecting from the printers ( around $75).

Please send proposals and preferred exhibiting dates to Monique Lacey.    171monique@gmail.com

All other gallery enquiries please contact our Gallery Liaison officer Bev Goodwin.    bgoodwin@slingshot.co.nz

Running a Workshop

Workshops can be run to accompany an exhibition or the space can be hired independently to run a workshop.

In your proposal please provide an artist's bio, details of your workshop, and proposed Workshop hours/frequency during hire period. If accepted, Arthaus will support and share details via our email and social media platforms to advertise the artist's workshop. The hirer takes care of all sales, promotions, and opening hours for running the workshop(s). ArtHAUS takes no commission. Further details of accessing and orientating Arthaus will be provided if your Workshop Proposal is accepted.

The minimum hire period is 1week and maximum hire period is 3 weeks. The weekly hire period is from Tues to Monday and the gallery must be left clean by the end of Monday.

Please send proposals and preferred hire dates to Monique Lacey.    171monique@gmail.com

Space Hire - Studio/ Installation Experimentation

The weekly hire period runs from Tuesday to Monday  - the space can be experimented in as you wish but must be left clean by the end of Monday for the next Exhibitor/Hirer. The gallery can be closed to public access whilst you work.

In your proposal please clarify how you intend to use the space, details, and images of your practice. If accepted, further details on accessing and caring for the Arthaus space will be provided.

Arthaus can be accessed at any hour for studio experimentation during your hire period. We ask that you please be respectful of the other studio artists when using the space, so no booming music please.  If, during your hire period, you have completed work/ an installation that you wish to open to the public for exhibition during your hire period, Arthaus is happy to support that as long as it is communicated. Resultantly, Arthaus will share the work on our social media platforms and inform visitors that the gallery is open.

Please send studio hire/experimentation proposals and preferred hire dates to Monique Lacey.    171monique@gmail.com
